Blockchain technology, cryptocurrency fintech and programming abstract.

This module examines key FinTech innovations and their disruptive impact on financial services and markets. It explores developments like digital payments, cloud computing, and big data, highlighting their role in shaping financial contexts and driving the digital economy. Besides exploring how those technologies are transforming financial services, you will gain insights into ethical, regulatory, and sustainability considerations within the FinTech ecosystem.

This module brings together key concepts in investment theory and practice, with a focus on equity and fixed-income valuation, portfolio management, and trading strategies. It introduces you to financial statement analysis, market efficiency, behavioural finance, and the application of both fundamental and technical analysis techniques. In addition, you will explore other forms of securities market investments, including futures, forwards, foreign exchange, and cryptocurrencies. The module builds a foundation for understanding how investment decisions are made, evaluated, and managed.

This module provides an applied introduction to data analytics and business intelligence for students from non-technical backgrounds. It is designed to equip learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to engage with data in business and financial contexts. You will learn how to organise, clean, and analyse data to support better decision-making. The emphasis is on understanding the flow of data from source to insight, but with enough conceptual grounding to work effectively in data-informed environments. The module supports the development of data literacy, analytical thinking, and visual storytelling skills, preparing students to collaborate confidently with technical teams and make meaningful contributions to data-led projects.

This module introduces you to the role of blockchain, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence in financial services. It focuses on how these technologies are shaping innovation, automation, and digital security across financial systems. The module emphasises applied understanding, critical evaluation, and responsible use rather than deep technical development. It prepares you to engage with technology-enabled finance from a strategic and operational perspective.

The dissertation provides you with the opportunity to conduct independent research into a FinTech-related topic of academic or practical importance. You will apply research methods and analytical skills developed throughout the programme, engaging in systematic inquiry to produce meaningful insights or recommendations relevant to the FinTech field.

This module introduces you to essential financial concepts, systems, and institutions that underpin both traditional finance and the emerging FinTech landscape. The focus is on understanding how financial markets function, how funds are allocated through intermediation, how payment systems operate, and how monetary policy is conducted. You will also explore key areas such as risk and return, financial inclusion through microfinance, and the emergence of alternative finance models like crowdfunding. Ethical, regulatory, and sustainability dimensions are embedded throughout. This foundational knowledge prepares you to critically analyse the financial infrastructure that supports and interacts with innovation in FinTech.

The purpose of this online module is to examine systematic research approaches within financial and technology-enabled contexts, while preparing you for the dissertation stage of their MSc FinTech studies. You will develop investigative and analytical skills by exploring qualitative and quantitative research methods applied to areas such as financial innovation, digital markets, blockchain, data analytics, and AI in finance. The module encourages critical thinking and practical understanding in preparation for independent research.
