Overview

This Advanced Certificate in Nautical Science course is designed for experienced seafarers wishing to process in their career as a Deck Officer for the Merchant Navy.  This course will enable you to complete the required modules, followed by undertaking a series of short courses to achieve this certificate. The course has multiple intakes to enable you to start the course around your visa requirements or any special requests.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

The Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) regulations require a candidate:

  • 19 years of age and over. 
  • Hold a valid ENG1 (medical fitness certificate) or accepted equivalent.
  • 36 months’ seagoing service in any acceptable deck capacity, or 48 months if you have been working as a General Purpose (GP) rating.
  • The qualifying sea service must include six months engaged in bridge watch keeping duties.
  • Attend an Interview.
  • Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. IELTS for UKVI (Academic) band 5.5, with no component below 5.5 or above
