Overview

The Advanced Diploma in Nautical Science course is designed for serving deck officers looking to process their employment in the Merchant Navy as a master and chief mate.

You are required to already hold a UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) ‘OOW’ Unlimited (Reg II/1) Certificate of Competency or acceptable non-UK equivalent. 

This course will enable you to complete the required modules, followed by undertaking a series of short courses to achieve this diploma. The course has multiple intakes to enable you to start the course around your visa requirements or any special requests.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

The Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) regulations require a candidate:

  • Hold an MCA recognised valid OOW unlimited, II/1, Certificate of Competency
  • Have completed 12 months’ watch keeping service while holding an OOW unlimited, II/1, Certificate of Competency
  • Hold a valid ENG1 (medical fitness certificate) or accepted equivalent
  • An interview.
  • Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. IELTS for UKVI (Academic) band 5.5, with no component below 5.5 or above.
