This module will enhance students’ overall understanding and application of research methodologies and methods that are used to investigate the behavioural, social and biomedical sciences relevant to health, social care and education. Students will develop their theoretical, methodological and research skills to enhance their ability to conduct rigorous research and reach sound analytical conclusions which will form the basis for the development of effective service delivery in health and social care organisations.
Students will be encouraged to undertake a service evaluation, potentially to identify and explore current challenges. As a result of their evaluation, they will be encouraged to make some recommendation for change to future practice. It is expected that this will be a bespoke piece of work, undertaken in their own field of practice.
The dissertation will allow students to demonstrate a critical and constructive awareness of their professional practice from the wider philosophical, theoretical and social contexts within which health and social care operate. Students will identify a problem or opportunity in practice and choose an appropriate methodology to facilitate the exploration of the problem. This can include primary research, service evaluation, clinical audit or a systematic literature review.
