Overview

The Post Graduate Certificate in Computed Tomography Colonography (PgC CTC) is offered within the School of Health, Sciences and Society and is co-delivered with the National CT Colonography Academy (NCTCA).

The aim of the programme is to increase the overall quality of CTC examinations within England and therefore narrow the performance gaps that exist between centres. It utilises online training, in house mentorship and external examination to assess and drive improvements in CTC practice.  The University of Suffolk will be co-delivering this programme to ensure academic rigour and quality. As an online course this can be start on a monthly basis. 

CTC performance varies widely across the UK and the programme hopes to narrow the gaps in practice and improve patient outcomes.  

The programme is open to the following clinical staff groups, practicing within the UK, who either currently perform CT Colonography Examinations or who wish to train to perform CT Colonography:

  • HCPC registered Diagnostic Radiographers
  • Consultant Radiologists
  • Radiology Registrars

The course is aligned directly to the SCoR Radiographer Education Development Group ‘Training and education framework for radiographers undertaking CT Colonography as part of the Bowel Cancer screening Service’ (SCoR, 2019).

The PgC CTC Practice pathway is designed for post graduate students who undertake the first module of the PgC CTC ‘Module A: CTC Technique’ and want to continue to complete their PgC but will not be reporting CTC examinations and therefore ‘Module B: CTC Interpretation’ will not be relevant to them. The PgC CTC Practice pathway will include the first 30 credit module of the PgC CTC and the second 30 credit module of the PgC Computed Tomography (CT) course entitled ‘Service Delivery’.  This will equip them to work as enhanced practitioners who perform CTC examinations and lead a service but do not report the CTC examinations.

This module is designed to enable radiographers working in imaging & treatment services to critically examine the intersection of patient care, service delivery and operational management, supporting the development of both reflective practitioners and effective service leaders.

The rationale for this module is grounded in the recognition that cross-sectional imaging and treatment services are shaped not only by technological advancement but also by the human, organisational and ethical dimensions of practice. Radiographers must be equipped to navigate and evaluate models of service delivery, adapt to rapid changes, and engage in collaborative and inclusive approaches that prioritise safe, effective and compassionate patient care. By embedding principles of person-centred practice alongside critical evaluation of service management and delivery models, the module ensures that learners are able to contextualise their clinical expertise within broader healthcare systems.

Through exploration of key topics such as safeguarding, consent, inclusive practice, optimisation of resources, and the application of artificial intelligence, students will engage with current debates and emerging challenges facing practice. They will also critically examine strategies for resource management, staff organisation and interprofessional collaboration, ensuring readiness to contribute to sustainable and adaptive service provision.
