Legal Advice Centre

The University of Suffolk Legal Advice Centre provides free legal advice to our local community, whilst at the same time providing our law students with an opportunity to gain practical experience. We are very grateful to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Helen Langton, for the continued support in this project.

We provide legal advice in two areas of law — family law and new businesses and start-ups. To ensure we are able to reach all of our clients, it is possible to request either a meeting in person or an appointment online. We provide an initial one-hour consultation and then written advice will be provided to you within seven-ten working days by our students, who are supervised by qualified solicitors. We are hugely grateful to be assisted by our volunteer solicitors, Richard Port MBE of George Green Solicitors, Amanda Timcke and Andrew Tubb of Birketts Solicitors and Paul Whittingham.

Stars of Suffolk Awards Finalist 23/24

The University of Suffolk Legal Advice Centre was selected as a finalist in the 2023-2024 Stars of Suffolk Awards, in the category of Teams/Community Group of the Year! The Stars of Suffolk Awards are designed to pay tribute to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes, making our county what it is. We are incredibly proud to have made it into the final three and would like to thank our student volunteers and everyone who has supported us, particularly our pro-bono solicitors! We are very grateful for all of your continued support! It was great to see so many people recognised for their work in the community!

Project of the Year 2023

We are incredibly proud to have won Project of the Year on Friday 20th October 2023 at the Stars of Suffolk Staff Awards at the University of Suffolk! It was fabulous to be presented our award by comedian and honorary graduate Jo Brand, who presented awards to all eight categories. We would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported us and congratulations to everyone who was nominated, highly commended and the winners!
