Legal Advice Centre - Immigration Blog

The Legal Advice Centre is starting an exciting new project focused on Immigration. With the increase of refugees and asylum seekers in Suffolk, the Legal Advice Centre recognised that this is an area which we could help in and are passionate that we could make a difference.

In light of this, myself and our placement student, Eunice Mendonca, undertook an Immigration training course with the Immigration Advice Service on the 7th and 8th March 2023, in preparation to take the OISC Level 1 Adviser exam.

I found this course to be extremely beneficial, as it gave us an overview of Immigration Law, Asylum Law and EU Law. I already had previous knowledge of EU law, due to my Law degree, but learning about the two new legal areas was really interesting and allowed me to gain a greater understanding of how these different laws link together.

Over both days, we practiced some example questions from past papers in preparation for the exam, which I found to be very useful in recalling and testing myself on what had been taught.

We were also given revision booklets, which seemed dauntingly big due to the number of pages, however, being able to practice quickly finding the relevant information, such as statutes, has been very helpful!

I am eager to further my knowledge surrounding this area of law and to complete the OISC Level 1 advisers' exam, in order to support this exciting new project!
