Governance
Sustainability at the University is delivered through a clear and effective governance structure that ensures accountability at every level, from strategic leadership to operational delivery. Sustainability is led from the top, with the Vice Chancellor setting the strategic direction and the Board providing oversight and assurance, holding the institution accountable for performance and progress.
The Executive Team provides strategic leadership for sustainability, aligning with the University’s overall direction. Through Executive Team meetings and reporting to the Board, they oversee the delivery of plans, approve resources, and support initiatives across Estates, Teaching, Operations, and Research.
The Provost, Pro Vice Chancellors, and the Executive Deans of Schools are responsible for delivering academic sustainability priorities. This includes sustainability and the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals within curricula, research activity, and student outcomes.
This work is supported by the Suffolk Sustainability Institute, which provides academic leadership, research, and subject-area expertise, and regional partnerships to advance sustainability knowledge and impact. Together, they ensure that the University's academic activity contributes meaningfully to global sustainability challenges and delivers measurable progress.
