Overview

This postgraduate certificate is designed for a range of healthcare professionals, aligned to HCPC and NMC requirements and suitable for enhanced level practice frameworks. Students undertaking this course will typically be involved in supporting learners within the clinical environment, including undergraduate students and post registration professionals.

For this module, you will be required to design a range of learning activities drawing on appropriate educational theories. We will explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning, including exploring techniques such as simulation, case-based learning and peer-assisted learning.

The module will include the following:

· Theories of learning and teaching that are relevant to the clinical learning environment.

· Principles of assessment for and of learning

· Assessment design, which will also include consideration of the use of AI and other technologies.

· Reflexivity in assessment design

· Learning needs within the clinical setting to ensure inclusive practice.

For this module you will be required to write a small scale research enquiry which should draw on leadership theory, change management and feedback to propose a service improvement linked to the individuals own practice environment or clinical education. We will explore the ideas of leadership, change management, feedback and pastoral support within the current climate of healthcare to support those in practice education roles.

The module will include the following:

  • Critical evaluation of the current practices in healthcare education
  • Principles of leadership within healthcare, including: leadership styles.
  • Principles of feedback and models for providing feedback in change management, including: peer review, developmental feedback, feedforward feedback and engaging learners with feedback.
  • Theories of change management and organisational change.
  • Pastoral support mechanisms and techniques for practice educators to support students in practice.
  • Reflexivity in assessing the current setting of healthcare education within the NHS.
  • Healthcare research within practice including encouraging involvement, understanding and opportunities.
