Graduate Story

Steph Dodgers – BSc (Hons) Psychology and MSc Applications of Psychology Graduate

"My degree has given me the important skills and knowledge to be successful in starting my PhD and academia journey.

I chose to study at the University of Suffolk because of its passion for student excellence, the academic support it offers and the focus on disability support. I knew I would be respected as a mature student and that I would be offered the support and guidance when I needed it. The University is consistently looking for new ways to offer experiences for its students and ensuring they are supported in finding opportunities to assist them moving forwards within their chosen career and I knew this was something important to me when looking to complete my degree.

The main strength of the University for me was the staff support for its students, both academically and as individuals. The lecturers and other staff have always been kind and encouraging, wanting us to succeed as well as going above and beyond to assist us in our academic journeys. The psychology staff specifically were always on hand to offer extra tutorials and provide support or guidance on areas I may have struggled with. They always ensured there was opportunities for us to receive feedback on assignments and provide guidance on how to improve moving forwards. I also enjoyed the variety of assessments we were provided, ensuring there was a mixture of formats to assist us in being creative or using our strengths to come across within the assignments. Some of these included the opportunities to create podcasts, presentations or fact sheets.

I completed the FutureMe Award over the course of my degree to ensure I was fully prepared to identify my career goals and recognise my strengths that could assist me in securing a career and being successful. I also met with the team to discuss my goals and what steps I would need to complete to reach this target."
