VAWGRN
Violence Against Women and Girls Research Network
An interdisciplinary and intersectional space dedicated to research that is by and for women, of all backgrounds and identities, where we hold things in tension but are stronger together.
Researching Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is tough. It can be lonely, heavy, and sometimes it feels as though there are so many obstacles and challenges that change will never happen. However, small steps lead to big movements - and we need each other for the difficult work that is preventing violence against women.
The VAWG Research Network aims to bring researchers and practitioners together, providing opportunities to collaborate, connect, and share knowledge in a supportive environment. Over time we hope members of the network will work together to apply for funding, share data and develop new research and practice that helps protect women and girls. Most importantly the VAWG Research Network aims to provide safer spaces to work together toward this goal, where we are stronger together.
What is the VAWGRN?
Our network brings together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from across disciplines to understand and address violence against women and girls (VAWG). Spanning law, social work, psychology, sociology, health, and beyond—including the arts, media, geography, and technology—our members reflect the diverse ways VAWG is studied, experienced, and challenged across social, legal, and cultural contexts.
The network is a multi-sectoral space for anyone engaged in research and action on violence against women and girls (VAWG). Members include independent and institutional researchers, practitioners, policymakers, activists, survivors, and advocates, alongside academic colleagues at all career stages. Together, we connect knowledge and practice across sectors to strengthen collective responses to VAWG.
Our network is an intersectional and inclusive space grounded in solidarity and collective action to end violence against women and girls (VAWG). We welcome people of all identities whose work centres women’s experiences and safety. We value the diverse voices, lived experiences, and different knowledges that strengthen our shared commitment to justice and change.

The VAWGRN was created after the Middlesex University PV-C Director of Knowledge Transfer, Mark Gray approached Miranda Horvath and suggested that she should put together a consortia of researchers on VAWG to work together for funding applications.
