Dr Katrina Burrows is a Lecturer in Psychology within the School of Health, Science and Society, having joined the University of Suffolk in February 2026. Katrina teaches across Psychology courses at the University. She is an experienced educator with a teaching portfolio spanning higher education, community learning, and professional training. Prior to her current role, Katrina taught across psychology programmes as an Occasional Lecturer and completed a transformational fellowship with the British Sleep Society leading sleep education initatives. Her teaching ethos centres on the belief that learning should be inclusive, empowering, and grounded in real world application.

Katrina specialises in sleep science, physiology, health and community well being. With a PhD exploring hypersomnolence and cognitive functioning in higher education populations, she integrates academic research with extensive clinical experience as a Senior Paediatric Sleep Physiologist. Her work spans paediatric sleep disorders, cortical arousal measurement, and the psychological impacts of sleep disruption, and she has delivered research across national and international platforms. As Education Lead on the British Sleep Society Executive Committee, she plays a key role in strengthening UK sleep medicine training and professional development opportunities.

Katrina teaches across qualitative and quantitative methods, health psychology, biological psychology, and sleep science. Her approach emphasises active learning, research informed practice, and methodological confidence, drawing on both her academic expertise and clinical background in sleep measurement and physiology.

Courses: BSc (Hons) Psychology

Katrina’s research focuses on hypersomnolence, well-being, emotion, attention, sleep physiology, and paediatric sleep health. She has led funded projects through the British Sleep Society and the Scottish Association of Sleep Apnoea and collaborates with community and healthcare partners on applied well‑being and health initiatives. Her work is disseminated through journal publications, national committees, and conference presentations across the UK, Europe, and internationally.
