Dr Anna Max is a lecturer in Early Childhood and Primary Education in the School of Business, Arts, Social Sciences and Technology, University of Suffolk. Following a degree in Music at the University of Huddersfield, Anna worked as a professional musician. In 2005 she qualified as a Montessori early years practitioner and spent many years working in Montessori early years and primary education. In 2017 Anna completed her MA in Childhood and Youth Studies at the University of Suffolk and her PhD in 2025, with her thesis titled "A critical analysis of the accountability discourse in early years education in England and Finland". Her expertise is in Early Years Education, child development and social policy.

Anna has lectured at the University of Suffolk and East Coast College on many subjects, including inclusive practice, play and wellbeing, and child development and education in the early years.

Anna's research interests include comparative critical policy analysis, early years education and child development. Current research projects include exploring the role of policy in constructing early childhood practitioners' perceptions of refugees and analysis of the accountability discourse in early years education.
