Warm Places

There are lots of great spaces around the University campus where staff and students can stay warm during the winter. Warm places will be available and are able to provide the following:

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Hot food and drink
  • Community spaces for meeting and socialising
  • Quiet spaces for study, working and personal space
  • Warm showers

For those staff and students who would like to use the shower facilities, shower heads can be signed out through Security at the Waterfront Reception. To find your nearest shower location, contact FM Helpdesk.

All students are invited to access the SU Social Space for:

  • Free weekly breakfast and dinner clubs in the SU Social Space, bookable in advance
  • Free food bank and lunch bags in the SU Social Space, readily available for students to help themselves to
  • Free tea and coffee from the SU Social Space kitchen
  • Free sanitary products available from the Student Space

Both staff and students can take advantage of Paddy & Scott's for lower prices on food and drink with your staff or student card.

Under the cost of living charter, Ipswich Town is providing warm banks at some of their facilities, giving people who are unable to heat their homes a free warm space to spend time during the winter. The Council have made available Gallery 3 at the Ipswich Town Hall, the Reg Driver Centre in Christchurch Park and community rooms at the council sport centre as places where you can pay £1 for a warm shower.

Warm Welcome is national network of community groups and businesses coming together to offer free warm spaces for those struggling to heat their homes. Find out more about how you can access the warm spaces available nationally and within Ipswich.

Gainsborough Community Library will be offering free hot drinks and soup to all those who visit to help keep warm. They also have a 'Kindness Rack' which allows donations to be made of warm items such as coats, blankets and jumpers. Members of the public are then able to take items as they wish.

Together for Ipswich is host to the Winter Warmth programme of open venues to support the people of Ipswich through the cold months and is coordinated by Together for Ipswich.

Venues will be open to offer support such as:

  • Free hot meals and drinks
  • Children activities
  • Internet Access
  • Wellbeing Support
  • Clothing and Food Banks

Please note, support is subject to each venue.
