On Friday, 14 November, representatives from the county’s culture and heritage sector came together to celebrate the launch of the Suffolk Centre for Culture and Heritage.

During the event, guests were invited to hear from some of Suffolk’s cultural leaders including Genevieve Christie, CEO for First Light Festival and Sammi Wong, artist and illustrator and alumni of the University.

The University of Suffolk’s newly installed Chancellor, Zeb Soanes, joined Professor Emma Bond, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange, for an engaging and insightful conversation about our creative landscape — from festivals and illustration to film, photography, and history.

Their discussion shone a light on the important role creativity plays, not just in the cultural life of our region, but in shaping more connected communities.

In addition to networking opportunities, guests were able to try the Xibitr VR headset and listen to cello music performed by William Bass.

Dr Amanda Hodgkinson, Director for the Suffolk Centre of for Culture and Heritage said: “The University can play an important role in showcasing the cultural richness within our county, and provide a space to foster connections and research opportunities between the university, cultural and heritage organisations, and wider community.”
