As part of a programme of campus improvements, the University of Suffolk is preparing to install a new illuminated sign at the top of its Waterfront Building.
This will increase its visibility on the waterfront and to people travelling in and out of town via Stoke Bridge.
To facilitate this work, scaffolding and a cherry picker will be needed to reach the external wall above the 6th floor. This will be positioned outside The Mix café (formerly Paddy & Scott’s) between Tuesday 5 May and Thursday 28 May.
While this work is underway, there will be no access into The Mix from the water side doors and customers will instead need to enter via the University of Suffolk foyer. The Mix will remain open as usual for all staff, students and members of the public.
To safely facilitate this installation, a road closure will be in place from the corner of Coprolite Street up to the Salthouse Harbour Hotel.
Pedestrian access will also be restricted between the corner of Coprolite Street and the corner of the plaza and the Waterfront Building. Staff, students and members of the public will be directed around the front of the Waterfront Building, via Coprolite Street and the plaza.
Nigel Lucker, Chief Estates Officer at the University of Suffolk said: “The installation of the new illuminated sign is part of our wider campus improvement plan, based on reimagining existing buildings to meet student and university needs, rather than new build.
“The sign expresses our pride in being the University of Suffolk, our connection to the town and forms part of our wider ambition to enhance our visibility locally. We apologise for any disruption caused while this work is underway.”
Improvements are taking place across the University's waterfront campus, including a brand new library, modernised study areas, the creation of a new dedicated student hub and facilities for the new pharmacy course launching in September.
