Maria Marinan

Maria began her career in Social Care, working within adult services and managing residential homes, including a specialist home for people with dementia.

She later completed her social work qualification and went on to work in children's services. She then became a children's guardian and later a manager within Cafcass. Maria has also worked as an independent social worker.

In 2022 and 2023, Maria served as an end-point assessor for the Social Work Degree Apprenticeship. This first experience of working with the university inspired her to pursue a role as a lecturer.

Maria is now the Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Social Work and BA (Hons) Social Work (Degree Apprenticeship) programme.

Maria was a social work Practice Educator for many years and has delivered workshops and training to student social workers, social workers and children's guardians.

Maria has completed a Master's Award in Advanced Social Work Practice and is completing an MSc in Psychology.

When undertaking a Masters in Advanced Social Work Practice Maria undertook a research project in regard to The Impact of Childhood Sexual Abuse on the Survivors Parenting Capacity.

Maria has recently completed a MSc in Psychology with a concluding study on Resilience of Independent Social Workers Working with Children and Families.

Maria's research interests include: impact of childhood sexual abuse, assessment of parenting capacity, private law, evidence informed practice, supervision, and data driven social work practice.
