Digital Film Production Student Story
Sebastian Ballison, BA(Hons) Digital Film Production Graduate
"After graduating from the University of Suffolk, I began working as a Production Runner for Splice Post. Shortly after this, I was promoted to Senior Media Coordinator of the Media Hub department. This current role requires me to train, manage and work alongside a team of talented individuals.
Some of my other responsibilities include preparing kits with equipment to allow our clients to work from home, as well as setting up and testing Avid systems for in-house and remote editors. Whilst studying Digital Film Production, I regularly used Avid Media Composer to edit films I created throughout my degree. This provided me with the opportunity to get comfortable with industry standard editing software before eventually working in post-production.
During my studies, I often took on the role of director, which allowed me to develop my interpersonal and communicative skills, by frequently collaborating with people in front of and behind the camera. This was a key transferable skill, as an essential part of my current position is to coordinate with other departments within the company through verbal and written communication.
One of the fundamental strengths of the university when I studied there, were the number of opportunities available to me. During my studies, I had the pleasure of working with Film Suffolk on their latest project at the heart of the town centre. For my
final film, I was privileged enough to make a documentary onboard the Sailing Barge Victor, which docks on the Ipswich Marina. Opportunities are truly at your fingertips at the University of Suffolk."
