Dr Scarlett Moloney is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health. Scarlett is also active in public health research and is currently Postdoctoral Researcher at Queen Mary University of London on the CHERISH study (Children’s Health, Respiratory Inflammation and Short-term air pollution) alongside her role at the University of Suffolk. Scarlett spent two years as Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science at Anglia Ruskin University where she led on modules such as Exercise Medicine. During this time, Scarlett worked closed with Cambridge University Hospitals to provide the students with opportunities to gain experience in clinical exercise physiology settings.

Scarlett completed her PhD at the University of Suffolk which focused on acute lung-function and airway-inflammation responses to exercise in different environments and Scarlett's has continued with research that bridges exercise physiology, air pollution exposure, and public health. She has contributed to national policy development through her input to the UK government’s Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants (COMEAP), including the 2024 report Overview of Advice Provided to the Air Quality Information System (AQIS) Review Steering Group.

Scarlett leads the Research Methods and Epidemiology module for the MSc Public Health Programme. She also contributes to other modules including Public Health Nutrition and Global Public Health Leadership.

Scarlett is particularly interested in exercise as lifestyle medicine and the impact air pollution has on human health and vulnerable groups in particular.

Teaches on the MSc Public Health course. 

Scarlett has several peer-reviewed publications and has presented her work at international and national conferences, including the Europhysiology conference in Copenhagen. Scarlett is also due to present work from her PhD at the American Thoracic Society conference in Orlando Florida in 2026.

Scarlett is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
