A £5.5m refurbishment of the former West Building created The Atrium which opened in September 2016.

The modern, accessible facilities include:

• 120 seat tiered auditorium
• Bloomberg Lab featuring industry-grade Bloomberg programmes allows users to learn trading skills and portfolio management, while testing business and economic strategies in a real-world environment.
• Psychology laboratories with electroencephalography (EEG) caps, electrocardiogram (ECG) equipment and eye-tracking equipment
• Cyber security and high-specification digital forensics laboratories
• Games laboratories with ultra-wide screens and workstation-specification desktop computers
• VR headsets and Rokoko Motion Capture suits
• 3D-printing laboratory
• Podcast booth, sound-treated and equipped for both audio and video recording
• Teaching rooms, seminar rooms and staff offices

The building is also the headquarters of the Business Solutions Centre and Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

Coffee Cat café is situated alongside a large social space in the central atrium on the ground floor.

The refurbishment of the West Building was made possible partly thanks to a £1.75m award by the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) as part of the New Anglia LEPs Growth Deal with the Government.
