The University of Suffolk will be marking next month's National Apprenticeship Week with a special event connecting employers and potential apprentices.
On Wednesday 11 February, the University’s Business Engagement and Apprenticeship teams will be joined by employers offering apprenticeship opportunities, as well as businesses which want to recruit apprentices but don’t know where to start.
The event, which is being held in The Atrium building at the University’s Ipswich campus, will run from 4.00-7.00pm, and is also open to people looking to explore their next steps, such as students, career-changers or those looking to upskill through an apprenticeship.
During the event, employers and those considering an apprenticeship will be able to find out more about higher and degree apprenticeship options at the University, as well as at local Further Education colleges in the county.
The University of Suffolk offers a range of apprenticeships such as in Social Work, Health and Wellbeing, Data Scientist, Environmental Practitioner and Civil Engineering among others.
Those attending will also be among the first to hear about the new Level 6 Early Years Teaching Degree Apprenticeship, launching in September 2026 (pending validation).
In addition, employers offering sector-specific insights include Sizewell C focusing on construction and project management, East Suffolk Council with expertise on public services and environmental health, and career pathways in healthcare from East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT).
More information can and booking can be found on the Eventbrite page here.
A Changing Apprenticeship Landscape
Once primarily associated with traditional trades, apprenticeships in the UK have undergone a significant evolution to include careers in digital technologies, the environment, health and social care, and engineering among many others, and can support a wealth of individuals, including school leavers, career-changers, and those looking to upskill in their existing career.
Maximising funding and local impact
In addition to the showcase event, the University’s third and final Levy Roadshow event will take place in Lowestoft during National Apprenticeship Week, delivered in partnership with East Suffolk Council.
The event runs from 10am to 12.00pm at East Suffolk Council’s Lowestoft Riverside Office on Friday 13 February, and aims to help employers make the most of apprenticeship levy funding.
It includes advice on how to maximise apprenticeship levy funds, and how to transfer unused levy funding to smaller employers.
