Dr James Morehen is Lead Performance Nutritionist to the England Rugby Senior Men's team, and one of very few practitioners who works at the top of both international sport and applied research. His route in was unconventional. He spent time as a snowboard instructor in Canada, then completed a PhD at Liverpool John Moores University under Professors Graeme Close and James Morton, which led to more than a decade in elite sport. He has held senior roles with the Football Association (2017–2021) and Bristol Bears, and he consults with world-class professional boxers including Chris Billam-Smith and Adam Azim. James is a SENr-registered practitioner with over 22 peer-reviewed publications. He led the world's first doubly labelled water study of energy expenditure in international football, work that continues to shape how elite players are fuelled.

Away from the training ground, James is the author of The Performance Nutritionist. He founded the Performance Nutrition Network, a global community of practitioners, and the Black Box Nutrition Conference. Through Morehen Performance Ltd, he advises sports organisations, hotels and nutrition companies on turning evidence into food people actually want to eat, and has spent ten years developing performance menus across elite sport and hospitality. He offers students an honest view of what the job demands at the highest level. For research and enterprise partners, he connects rigorous science with measurable impact in real-world settings.
