Clair Piper 1

Clair joined the Mental Health Lecturing team here at Suffolk University in September 2021.

Clair undertook her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Msc in Mental Health Nursing at University of Essex, qualifying in 2008 as a registered Mental health Nurse.  Also completing ‘developing professional practice’ CPD in 2016. During her nursing career she has had many roles within the NHS.  Clair enjoyed her time within older adults services working with service users suffering from dementia, supporting families and individuals to maintain a quality of life.  She later went on to work within the Assertive Outreach Team as Care-coordinator supporting service users with severe and enduring mental health conditions.  This approach was very much in keeping with Clair’s holistic nature and allowed for strong therapeutic relationships to be made, a key component to mental health nursing.  Clair went on to work within the Specialist Psychosis Teams, this included some first episode psychosis working, supporting some of the most vulnerable service users in our community.

Clair’s most recent role was Mental Health Practitioner in Diabetes service, having completed a credited course in Advanced Diabetes Management, this training greatly increased her knowledge around diabetes and it’s complications.  She found a passion for diabetes after this and is keen to share her knowledge with others.

Clair plans to start Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in January 2022.
