Yviemarie Ormsby
Hear Yviemarie talking about her experience of studying and what she has gone on to do since graduating:
I chose Graphic Design as I have always had a love for it, although I didn t realise it had a name at the time! I still have my very first branding project from when I was eight years old.
The teaching and course structure was fantastic. There was a mix of long and short projects, and also collaborations between other disciplines, such as working with the Photography students. We were taught how to create, develop and communicate ideas; many courses focus on software skills, but in reality our business is in ideas. This was invaluable to me. During the course I was able to discover the sort of designer I wanted to be, so I was fully prepared for the professional working environment.
Besides the course, the university is a great environment for learning, fun and opportunities. The open campus means you have access to all you need for your course and much more - I would often visit the print workshops to try something new, or the photography studios for inspiration.
During my time at university I got involved in a range if activities. I was on the netball team in my first year and student class rep in my second year. I also exhibited some designs , and did some design work for exhibitions hosted by the university.
I'm a Suffolk girl at heart so when the opportunity arose to study here, I was more than happy to do so, and I plan to stay here. I ve got a fantastic job working for an international graphic design agency, Kingsland Linassi, working on projects for global brands. The creative scene in Suffolk is really flourishing and I m so glad I can be part of it.
