Rosie Varley lives in Bury St Edmunds and is currently Chair of the General Social Care Council, Public Guardian Board and Skills for Health Eastern Region.
After a successful early academic career as a researcher and lecturer in Health and Social Policy at Manchester University, Rosie moved to work directly within the Healthcare sector.
Between 1984 and 2002 she was Chair of various NHS Trusts, Health Authorities, and Regions, including Mid-Anglia Community and Mental Health Trust (1991-1997) and NHS Eastern region (1997 -2002).
Between 1997 and 2008 Rosie was the Chair of the General Optical Council, and between 2002 and 2007 she was the NHS Appointments Commissioner.
Most recently Rosie has been Chair of the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence. In 2006 Rosie was awarded an OBE for services to the NHS and Healthcare.
