I am from Downham Market and I now work at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn after graduating from BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography.
I’ve put in a lot of work over this these three years so it’s nice to finally have it recognised after the year we have had.
I started in practice in April last year so I was straight into it and treating COVID-19 patients. I was going up to red ITU because they need x-rays. I got a job at the same site I trained at so I was able to slot in quite nicely and they supported me well. It was a challenge but we got through it, an interesting year!
Radiography is definitely a varied career for anyone considering it. As a degree programme, at the University of Suffolk, it is half and half with practical placement which I really enjoyed; it is nice to practically apply what you’ve learnt but also I liked the patient contact, I enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life. It keeps the job varied, every day is different. There is also the benefit that there is that pathway to having a job at the end of the degree. It is a good career and a very interesting job, I enjoy it.
