Prof. Mohammad Dastbaz graduated in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and went on to do a PhD in “Design, Development and Evaluation of Multimedia Systems” at Kingston University.

In 1989 he established one of UK’s first Multimedia computer companies called “Systems 2000 Ltd.” building Multimedia PCs and was one of the only companies alongside Philips Corporation to participate in the UK’s first Multimedia Systems Exhibition at London Olympia in 1990.

Prof. Dastbaz Joined Kingston University in 1994 as a research lead for developing Multimedia aided learning packages and has since worked in number of UK Universities. Between 2000-2007 he was the Head of the Department of Information Systems and Multimedia, at the University of Greenwich, he then went on to become the Dean of School of Computing and Engineering at the University of East London. In 2011 Mohammad joined Leeds Metropolitan University (now Leeds Beckett University) as their Dean and Pro Vice chancellor for Faculty of Arts, Environment and Technology, with over 7000 students and 600 staff, being responsible for five distinct academic schools. These included: School of Built Environment and Engineering, School of Computing, Creative Technologies and Engineering, School of Film, Music and Performing Arts, School of Art, Architecture and Design and School of Cultural Studies and Humanities.

Prof. Dastbaz remains research active and has published over 60 refereed Journal, and Conference papers, books and book chapters. He is on a number of Editorial boards of International Journals, has been chair of a number of International Conferences (including IEEE’s Information Visualisation) and remains a member on a number of International conference committees.

His latest publications include an edited volume published by Elsevier publishers, on “Green Information Technologies” (2015); “Building Sustainable Futures - Design and the Built Environment”, published by Springer (2016) - a collaboration with University of California – Berkeley, and a series of four edited volumes on “Technology and Sustainable Futures” being published by Springer. The first three books in the series “Building Information Modelling, Building Performance, Design and Smart Construction”, a collaboration with University of Cambridge (2017), “Technology for Smart Futures”, (2017) a collaboration with University of Georgia, and Sheffield Hallam, and “Smart Futures, Challenges of Urbanisation, and Social Sustainability” (2018) a collaboration with Maastricht School of Management and Leicester School of Architecture have already published.

Prof. Mohammad Dastbaz is a Fellow of the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, Fellow of the  Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of Royal Society of Arts (RSA).
