I did look at other universities (Portsmouth, Bristol, Hertfordshire, and Sheffield) but decided that the University of Suffolk was new and exciting in terms of the opportunities it presented me. Because it was new, the technology, support and equipment at my disposal was all up to date and current which whilst studying the BA (Hons) Business degree I found hugely important. Although Suffolk is smaller in terms of size the opportunities with companies and resources (online) were massive and I genuinely believe that's helped me.
My lecturers all knew me by name. So many of my friends who went to bigger universities didn't have the same experience; in my opinion I received much better support and this allowed me to achieve more.
I found the social side one of the best aspects of my course. I got to know and worked with all my fellow students and made friends for life. The variety of my modules literally covered everything you could possibly imagine too.
I completed two internships whilst studying at the University, both with EDF Energy in the HR department. This prepared me well ahead of graduating enabling me to gain valuable experience. Just before completing my degree I was successful in my application for an HR based graduate scheme with Morrisons plc (supermarket) so before I completed my degree in June I knew I was starting full time work in September.
I spent the summer enjoying the time off and in September when I began the graduate scheme, I met 15 likeminded people; although very intense, the opportunities are brilliant and everyone is friendly. I am generally based in stores throughout East Anglia and spend a lot of time travelling to the Head Office in Bradford and other projects within the UK. I am also studying for my CIPD qualification.
Currently my plans are to make the most of the graduate scheme and this experience. My aim is to continue my career in HR as I love working with others and constantly improving things, whether systems or people processes.
