Dr Winter is currently a partner at New Venture Partners, a transatlantic venture capital firm that specialises in spinning high technology companies out of R&D labs. He is also a Managing Partner of Brightstar Innovations Ltd, a consultancy company that advises major corporations on their innovations processes.

He has been involved in creating more than 35 high tech ventures and worked with more than 40 large US, European and Australian companies over the last 12 years, spanning the IT, telecoms, electronics, energy and medical sectors. He has been Chairman or on the board of seven companies and on the advisory of a number of universities and other companies. Companies he has been involved with have achieved exits worth a cumulative total in excess of $500m.

Prior to joining New Venture Partners in 2003, Chris was the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Brightstar, British Telecom s incubator for creating companies out of BT s technology base where he helped create ten new businesses.

He was previously on the board of Cambridge software start-up, and prior to that Head of Futures Research at BT where he was responsible, at various times, for programs covering areas as diverse as mobile network management, AI software and advanced optical materials.

Chris has been an invited speaker at International conferences on Open Innovation and regularly lectures at leading business schools on disruptive business models, corporate venturing and IP management.

He has held an 1851 research fellowship, gained a PhD in Physics at Lancaster University and a BA in Biochemistry at Oxford. He has published more than 70 scientific papers, patents and books.

Locally, Chris was involved with Brightstar at Adastral Park and in creating a number of new companies that continue to have a regional presence, including the exciting University of Suffolk spin-out Adiposet. His interest is building world class companies with the technologies and people at University of Suffolk.
