Mahbubul has over 30 years' maritime industry experience, including more than 15 years' sea experience in worldwide trade, which gave him a wide range of experience in navigation, operation of vessels and management of multicultural and multinational crews.

After his seagoing service, he joined East Coast College (previously Lowestoft College) as a lecturer Nautical Studies in 2006 and has been involved in lecturing on various HNC, HND & MCA courses.  Here he developed a firm understanding of the maritime education system. He has successfully delivered a variety of training and development programmes in line with agreed nautical science curriculums.

As a lecturer in Nautical Studies, he is primarily responsible for teaching Officer of the watch- HNC subjects, Chief mate- HND subjects, Master Oral, NAEST (Operation) and NAEST (Management) courses.
