As a mature student with a young family it was a little daunting returning to education, but the English degree lecturers were extremely supportive and guided me every step of the way.
The English course is extremely diverse allowing students to look at every aspect of English from 19th Century Novel to Autobiography; from Language Analysis to Digital Textuality. The course provides a great balance between language and literature, theory and practice. I found having the ability to choose modules that appealed to me and the online resources available really beneficial.
Shortly before finishing my degree I applied for a few positions and landed a role as a marketing intern on a new festival of Brazilian Literature called FlipSide; produced by Full Circle Editions, a local publishing house. Liz Calder, an Honorary Graduate of the University, is one of the founder directors of Full Circle Editions and Bloomsbury Publishing.
I am now the festival manager and as a result of FlipSide I gained further contracts with Full Circle Editions, Wonderful Beast Theatre Company and Aldeburgh Documentary Festival.
I really love where I am today; there s never a dull moment and I can honestly say that without my degree and the support and guidance of the University I would not be in this position.
