Alan Ridealgh joined Suffolk-based, family owned Muntons, a company that specialises in producing malt and malted ingredients for the food and drinks industry, in 1980. Following a degree in Zoology and two years working for the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food, Alan joined Muntons at their Bridlington, East Yorkshire site rising in the ranks at the company. Alan went from Trainee Grain Buyer to Regional Grain Buyer to Deputy Managing Director and then Managing Director in January 2006, working at Bridlington and the head office in Stowmarket. Since becoming Managing Director, Alan has been instrumental in developing and implementing Muntons sustainability programme, gaining numerous accolades and awards for sustainability initiatives. The most recent of which, was awarded for the installation of an anaerobic digester system which could generate up to 25% of the Head Office sites’ electricity needs. Muntons sources most of its raw materials within a 50 mile radius of its two malting in Stowmarket and Bridlington and employs around 300 people. Under Alan’s leadership the business has grown significantly, the annual sales revenue is over £110m globally. Alan is passionate about Muntons, malt and contributing to the local community. He actively encourages his staff to get involved in local school projects, in the mid-Suffolk area, and to support science activities and various careers projects.
