Suffolk Adult Learners’ Awards 2021

29 Mar 2021 4:45PM

Suffolk groups, individuals and learning and training providers are being urged to nominate candidates for the Suffolk Adult Learners’ Awards 2021.

Following the sad decision to postpone the 2020 awards due to the COVID-19 pandemic, nominations are being accepted for two years 2019-20 and 2020-21.

The Awards, now in their tenth year, celebrate the outstanding achievements of adult learners’ and their teachers and are organised by the University of Suffolk and Suffolk County Council.

Miles Cole, University of Suffolk External Relations Project Manager, said “After the disappointment at having to cancel the 2020 Awards due to the pandemic we were determined to celebrate adult learning in Suffolk this year. Unfortunately, we are still unable to hold an award ceremony at the University of Suffolk, but we will hold a live ceremony on-line.”

“As usual the Awards celebrate the commitment shown by tutors, volunteers, providers and learners’ while demonstrating the impact adult learning has on the lives of individuals. It can be for any kind of learning, it doesn’t have to be formal learning with qualifications – it could be learning that has taken place in a community group, at work etc.  So if you know an individual or a group who has achieved or succeeded beyond expectations, please nominate them so we can celebrate their achievements. We have also added additional awards this year that will celebrate the achievement of a group or individual learning on-line due to the pandemic, and pastoral support provided during the pandemic.”

The Award categories are:

  • Learning Project of the Year
  • Learning in Families; Bridging Generations Award
  • Tutor of the Year
  • Health and Wellbeing Impact Award
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Online Learning Award
  • Pastoral Support Award
  • Inspirational Learner of the Year

In addition there are two further awards:

  • Outstanding Services to Adult Education and Training in Suffolk, selected by the judging panel)
  • Outstanding Learner of the Year, the overall winner from those awarded on the evening

Nominations need to covering learning from May 2019 – April 2021 and the deadline is 9am on 30 April 2021. This year’s ceremony will be held as a virtual event, on Thursday 24 June 2021.
