Therapeutic Radiography student, Lara Burgess, has been recognised for her work by being awarded ‘Trainee of the Year’ in the Ipswich Hospital Staff Awards.
Alongside her studies and placement at the Hospital, Lara supports fellow students by writing material for the app, PlacementPAL.
HEFCE and the University has funded the development of a mobile web-app designed to act as an accessible, digital, aide memoire for students on work placements.
PlacementPAL provides immediacy of access to material designed to support the student to adapt to new learning environments and to take knowledgeable action in placement, helping them to build their confidence in interacting with professionals, clients and service users and in using unfamiliar systems or equipment.
Caroline Doolan, Director of Learning and Teaching and Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy and Oncology, said, “An interdisciplinary approach was taken to enrich the content and to provide an opportunity to pilot the concept in two diverse disciplines - we developed and piloted a version for Radiotherapy and Oncology and for Events and Tourism.
Second and third year students, including Lara, were engaged in determining and developing the content for use by novice students entering practice for the first time. I’m delighted Lara has been recognized in the recent staff awards- it is well deserved!”
