BA (Hons) History student, Nathan Wilson, is hoping to be named the Urban Jungle Hero of the Year.
Nathan was nominated for the award for his efforts in supporting his community during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The 18-year-old from Sproughton is on a shortlist with 14 other people aged between 18 and 30.
On hearing the news that he had been shortlisted, Nathan said “I was pleasantly surprised, I didn't know that I had even been entered until they had emailed to say I had been shortlisted.”
Over recent months Nathan has been shopping for his elderly and at-risk neighbours as well as tutoring some local primary school children.
“To begin with it was just helping my mother who is a senior mental health practitioner at Ipswich Hospital’s A&E. It then developed into helping my neighbours and then the wider community. It all happened naturally, there wasn't really a plan of like "okay I'm going to do this" is just sort of slowly occurred. I think you need to carry on with things as best as you can despite the circumstances.”
Nathan will find out if he is named ‘Hero of the year’ on Monday. The winner will be presented with a £250 Amazon voucher while four runners up will be given vouchers for £50.
