8 Jul 2021 9:15AM

The European Social Fund and University of Suffolk are financing a £1m project to support small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) to access high quality, immersive digital and leadership training.

The In-Career Education and Training Project (ICET) will deliver two key themes of training:

  1. Professional Leadership & Management

  1. Digital Innovation

SMEs who register and apply to the ICET project, can access 50% of funding towards high level, immersive courses that align to the University’s new Digitech Centre; a £9.6 million research and engineering facility at BT’s Adastral Park. The University is partnering with specialist national training providers to deliver:

  • Front End Web Development

  • Digital Marketing

  • Data Analytics

  • Product Management

High level leadership and management courses will be promoted through the University’s Leadership Academy, the home for executive education and leadership and management development. The University will partner with national training providers to deliver:

  • Strategy for Directors

  • Leadership for Directors

  • Leadership for Women

  • Agile Project Management

A key element of the ICET project is to promote the progression of women in business and digital. Women in business will be able to apply for 50% of funding towards a leadership course designed specifically for emerging women leaders.

Debra Gingell, ICET Project Manager said “This is a great outcome for the University and local SMEs. The University’s ambition is to support SMEs to overcome challenges, recover from COVID-19, to be sustainable and grow! I’m particularly looking forward to supporting emerging women leaders to move on in their careers.”

Pro-Vice Chancellor for Business and Entrepreneurship at the University of Suffolk, Professor Gurprett Jagpal, added “Universities play an important role in supporting innovation and business growth, the ICET project is just one way in which we can support the growth of our business community. The project provides a great opportunity for the University of Suffolk to support local SMEs to access high quality CPD training. I am grateful for the support of the European Social Fund and look forward to following the progress of the SMEs we engage.”

The ICET project has recently sponsored a mini webinar series to support SMEs. The series will be marketed broadly to businesses across Suffolk and Norfolk and will enable SMEs to tap into 5 key projects where they can access funding, technology, expertise and talent:

  • The ICET Project

  • The Supply Chain Skills Development Fund, Suffolk County Council

  • The Entrepreneurs Forge Programme, University of Suffolk

  • 3D Printing Suite, University of Suffolk

  • Apprenticeship Levy Fund for SMEs, New Anglia LEP

This series is an exciting piece of work because it signposts SMEs to the help they need or projects that they can directly benefit from.
