Interim is a diverse exhibition by eleven final year BA (Hons) Fine Art students working towards their degree show at the University of Suffolk. The students have created works in many different media, covering wide subject material and context. Interim offers an insight into local emerging artists and creative talent.
Dr Jane Watt, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University, said "The Interim exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for the students to test new approaches and ways of presenting work outside the studio to a wider public. They are rising to the challenge of not just making innovative work that responds to the world in which we live, but also finding ways to exhibit and develop new partnerships with contemporary art galleries. It is great that the Minories are supporting our next generation of artists in providing a unique venue for this exhibition."
One of the students exhibiting their work is Sally Jackson, who said “We are exhibiting our work in an Interim Exhibition prior to our forthcoming Final Degree Show in June 2020. The aim of the task was for us to gain valuable experience into working as a collective in order to bring our ideas together, to arrange an appropriate platform to display our exhibition, advertise the event, create all the necessary marketing material and produce work true to ourselves as artists.”
“We have been guided through the process by our tutor, Jane Watt, and have gained valuable experience from this exercise. We’ve been given an insight into the curation of an exhibition and confidence to approach curators, galleries and other organisations all of which will be transferable skills when we individually branch off into our own professional art careers after University.”
Fellow student, Toby Granger, added “Exhibiting outside of the University campus is an amazing opportunity as it shows our work to a new demographic and enables us to engage with new people. Obtaining the Minories exhibition space as a student cohort allows to work collectively to present externally to the University. This is a great opportunity for each student to showcase our individuality without limitation.”
Interim will run at The Minories Gallery, Colchester until 17 February.
