Celebrating the success of our alumni

8 Aug 2021 2:30PM

Several inspiring University of Suffolk alumni, including students and staff, have been featured in a new social media campaign by the University, called #UniSuffolkMadeMe.

The campaign showcases alumni talking about their success following their university journey.

Matthew and Jasmine

Matthew and Jasmine met each other while Matthew was studying BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science and Jasmine was studying BSc (Hons) Children’s Nursing. They hit it off straight away and have been inseparable ever since leading to their engagement! After graduating in 2019, they are both working in the NHS. Jasmine said "Applying for uni really was a step outside of my comfort zone, I was anxious to move away from home and doubted my ability. However, it turned out to be the best thing I ever did; not only did it lead me to my dream job as a nurse in paediatric intensive care, but also to my partner Matt. We met at uni and since then we have bought a house, worked on the front line through a global pandemic and we even got engaged! We are so excited to be planning our wedding for summer 2022!"

Originally from Romania, Alexandra knew that given the opportunity she wanted to study abroad, and Suffolk was her first choice. Alexandra achieved a First Class Honours in Event and Tourism Management and was the Course Rep for her cohort; both of which she counts as highlights during her time at university. Alexandra said “I loved being able to connect and meet different people at uni and outside it and making friends that I can now call family. If I was to summarise my experience at University of Suffolk in just one word it would be ‘opportunity’. After three years in Suffolk I can say that I left university with the knowledge, skills and confidence that I needed for both life and my career.”

Alen graduated with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design. During his time at Suffolk, he was the Student Course Rep and part of the Democratic Procedures Committee for the Student's Union. He said "When I look back on my life in the future, I want to be proud of myself that I didn't miss any opportunities. Sometimes in life, you fail but at least I tried, and that is why I take every chance I get.”

“Even though I have graduated and left the University, the support from the careers team hasn’t stopped and this is something I'm truly grateful for. My dream is to have my own creative company and have apps released and I often receive competitions or grants I can apply for to make my dreams a reality. I am forever grateful for all the help, support and especially for believing in me."
