The University of Suffolk and the Bangladeshi Support Centre are working together to launch the County’s first BME Business Awards – an evening to celebrate the diversity of businesses and the people that run them.
Culminating in an awards ceremony that will form a centrepiece to the University of Suffolk’s annual Business Festival, the awards offer the chance to encourage and support business development and innovation.
Dr Will Thomas, Deputy Head of the Suffolk Business School at the University of Suffolk said “We’re very excited about hosting these awards – Suffolk has a wonderfully diverse business community and this gives us the chance to recognise and celebrate their hard work.”
Mr Mojlum Khan, Centre Manager at the Bangladeshi Support Centre said “We have been supporting the Bangladeshi and other BME communities for almost 20 years and are delighted to have this chance to work with the University.”
There are 4 awards for which businesses or individuals can be nominated: Business of the Year; Business-person of the Year; Start-up or New Business of the Year; and Community Business of the Year. In addition, the judges will present a special award to a business that comes close to winning in another category.
Dr Daba Chowdhury, Senior Lecturer in Enterprise and Innovation at the University of Suffolk noted “These awards highlight the creativity and innovation that flourishes in multi-cultural communities. That spirit makes Suffolk a wonderfully enterprising County.”
