One of the University of Suffolk’s Higher Education Champions is getting ready to cycle from London to Brighton to raise money for cancer charities.
Annabel Osborn, Higher Education Champion of Arts, Design and Media will make the 100km-long journey from Crystal Palace in London to Brighton Seafront next month.
Riding alongside her friend Rebekah Bainbridge, the pair are looking to raise funds for Women V Cancer.
Founded in 2010, Women V Cancer brings together three important women’s cancer charities: Breast Cancer Now, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.
The three charities are committed to supporting thousands of people across the UK affected by women’s cancers and researching the development of effective treatments and cures.
The London to Brighton Cycle Challenge is organised by Women V Cancer and is due to take place on Sunday 3 July.
With last year’s event postponed due to the pandemic, Annabel is all the more excited to get started.
“I have never taken on a challenge like this.
“I got my first road bike in March 2021 and the furthest I have ridden is 40k, so I now need to put the hours of training in.”
She added: “I am very excited for the atmosphere of the ride on the day with the support of fellow riders and supporters, but nervous about the distance and being on the bike for so long!
“Fingers crossed I do not fall off my bike too now I have started using cleat shoes!”
“I am very fortunate to not have lost someone close to me to cancer, but I have had family members battle cancer and everyone knows someone who has been affected by this horrible, unforgiving disease.
“Please donate for this amazing cause on my behalf and I will take on the 100km bike ride the best I can!”
