Senior Lecturer in Architecture (Ref:247)

Salary range:
£43,434 - £51,799 per annum

The School of Engineering, Arts, Science and Technology, (EAST), is seeking to employ a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader to join its undergraduate Architecture degree provision, with the potential for the right candidate to take an appointment as Course Leader. This position is offered on a full time, permanent basis at University of Suffolk’s Ipswich Campus.

About the course

The BA (Hons) Architecture course works closely with its student cohort to nurture highly skilled and confident graduates. There is a strong emphasis on teaching that aims to develop both the student’s technical abilities and intellectual underpinning of their discipline.

The BA (Hons) Architecture at the University of Suffolk was established in 2018 in a town with a rich history and buildings. From its outset, it has focused on a vision of ecology, responding to complex sustainability issues and reducing the impacts of the construction industry, to inspire both staff and students to relate more thoughtfully to the environment and historical context of the region.

The course achieved ARB accreditation in 2021, and is building a successful environment together with a network of local professionals, research centres, and public institutions, to allow Suffolk’s Architectural community to flourish and prosper. We are strongly committed to positively supporting inclusion and diversity and reducing barriers to opportunity in industry. Student experience and research-led teaching are the top priority of the course team, and believe architecture is not a local business, but a global and situated culture aiming to create better modes of life.

About the post holder

The successful candidate will be expected to have a proven track record of teaching, assessing and curriculum development at undergraduate level, with good understanding and experience of quality issues within Higher Education. They should hold a current registration with a professional body in the UK, (ARB/RIBA), and have good contemporary knowledge of Architecture accreditation strategies and processes, (ARB/RIBA Part 1).

They will be expected to have a strong research profile, and will be required to liaise with Suffolk Sustainability Institute and other researchers within, and external to, the University of Suffolk. A successful candidate for Course Leader will be prepared to take a lead in developing the academic and professional activities of the course, establish a strategic role in developing the longer-term future direction of the course, and assist the Head of Arts and the Dean of the School in the day-to-day administration of the course.
