Lecturer in Graphic Design & Illustration (ref: 177)

Salary range: 
£35,845 to £41,526, pro rata per annum

Required part time (0.5fte) on a permanent contract.

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design course at the University of Suffolk is seeking a Lecturer to join its existing course team. The role will involve leading the planning, delivery and assessment of practical modules, specifically at Level 4 and 5, with some input on professional practice programmes.

The successful candidate will have had previous experience of working in the graphic design industry in some capacity, be proficient across Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, and have good contextual knowledge in the field of contemporary Graphic Design and / or Illustration. Previous experience of teaching at either further or higher education is essential, and they should hold a first degree in a related discipline with an MA being desirable. The role will typically be for two and a half days a week.

The Graphic Design course at Suffolk has a growing reputation and prides itself on its student experience. It received 100% Student Satisfaction in the 2020 NSS, and the University of Suffolk was listed 16th out of 73 universities in the Design and Crafts section of The Guardian League Tables 2020. The course encourages students to develop a critical questioning of Graphic Design as a discipline, while equipping them with the necessary skills to go straight into employment when they leave university, or progress to postgraduate study.

Graphic Design at Suffolk is delivered within the School of Engineering, Arts, Science and Technology (EAST), one of the most diverse Schools in the University. As such, the role brings exciting opportunities for working alongside academics from a wide range of backgrounds. Programmes provide strong integration of Art, Design, Science, Engineering and Creative Technologies to address the demands of the ever-changing societal needs via scholarly-led teaching, business engagement and research.
