Fully Funded PhD Studentship Opportunity
We are delighted to invite applications for an exciting PhD Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) opportunity in our award-nominated Biotechnology Unit laboratory.
The successful applicant will study for a PhD at the forefront of Bioscience research and undertake teaching and laboratory demonstration duties within the life science programmes.
The successful applicant will pursue a PhD investigation in the area of stem cell biology, under the supervision of Dr. Federica Masieri. The aim of the research project is to establish induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) cultures from the synovial fibroblasts collected from osteoarthritis patients, as part of an ongoing project, to evaluate how synovial fibroblasts contribute to establishing joint inflammation and tissue degeneration processes. As part of the project you will derive iPSC and investigate their use in disease research.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic graduate with a BSc (First or Upper Second) or MSc (Distinction or Merit) in Biosciences or a closely related discipline. Applicants must be eligible for Home/EU fees. Previous research experience or relevant experience would be an advantage. These Graduate Teaching Assistantship positions would suit a graduate wishing to develop a research and teaching career in bioscience.
The studentship will be for 3 years, starting in April 2019, covering research degree tuition fees at the home/EU rate, a £14,777 stipend, and a £6,079 part-time Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) salary, per year.
You will spend 80% of your time carrying out research as a PhD student and 20% of your time developing your skills for a career in research and teaching supporting undergraduate teaching mentored by academic staff members.
The successful candidates will be enrolled into the University of East Anglia (UEA) graduate program and have access to the training opportunities available at both at the University of Suffolk and the University of East Anglia.
