A DAY LONG GATHERING TAKING THE PULSE OF WHERE RADICAL, ACTIVIST AND POLITICISED PERFORMANCE IS AT.
What forms can radical performance work take, what sites and contexts can it occupy, what can it do, and who can it be for? What are the challenges and the potentials in relationships between artist-led and institutional contexts, and between activist and mainstream approaches? Who has power and what should they do with it? What kind of cultural ecosystem do we want and what can we do to create it?
The event sets out to consider different ways of working with the production, presentation, distribution and discussion of contemporary performance practices, and propose new models for a more sustainable and equitable future. The day is structured around conceptual issues, polemics, case studies and models of practices, in order to evolve shared conversations between all delegates around future strategies for cultural frameworks, critical dialogues and new audiences.
This gathering will put a contemporary performance framework around Chris Kraus famous question from her feminist tract I Love Dick, who gets to speak, and why?.
The day will comprise of two keynotes and four focused working areas. Each of these will begin with a series of short presentations, before audience led responses and discussions.
