Introduction

The BA (Hons) Applied Care Practice (Mental Health Support) Progression Route is relevant to practitioners working with people of any age. The applied nature of the degree provides theoretical knowledge along with practical application related to social care in contemporary society.

The programme has been developed to allow those in the Mental Health sector to further develop existing skills. It provides opportunities for students to develop a broad range of practice skills, knowledge and understanding within key subject areas and to acquire and enhance their professional values. Attendance is one day a week during term time and students are expected to be in paid or voluntary work in a relevant setting for at least 10 hours per week.

Social Policy & Practice (Requisite)

This module explores the social policy landscape and links Social policy to research and practice in mental health.

Transitions & Lifespan Development (Requisite)

Students will explore, using a case study approach, the support of service users through transitions.

Specialised Practice Portfolio for Leadership (Mental Health) (Mandatory)

Students are able to develop a project in their work setting, reflecting on their team leadership and management skills.

Negotiated Project (Mental Health) (Mandatory)

Students are required to provide an extended literature review or research proposal linked to their work setting.

Career opportunities

You will be able to access the range of postgraduate opportunities in mental health practice including mental health nursing, graduate entry employment supporting children, families and vulnerable adults, social work, youth work, teaching, counselling and advice work.

This degree will also support career progression in social and health care professions.

You will be taught at East Coast College, Great Yarmouth Campus where we deliver a range of undergraduate courses. There are areas and resources that are dedicated to Higher Education students including a study/common room with kitchen facilities.
