Perspectives in Education (Distance Learning)

The module will critically analyse the socio-cultural factors that exert influence on all educational settings. Students will have a critical introduction to the key drivers behind the evolution of education.  Particular attention will be paid to underpinning philosophical perspectives and the historical, political and economic dimensions of education. This module will provide an exploration of different perspectives on the role of education in society and approaches to teaching and learning.  The development of a reflexive approach towards individual practice will be encouraged.   In addition, the module will enable learners to develop a critical awareness of the potential and realities of contemporary learning initiatives, including technology-enhanced learning, using this to recognise upcoming trends in teaching and learning.
