Work Experience Bursary

The University of Suffolk, thanks to the support of the University of Suffolk Foundation Board, is very pleased to open applications to all current students (including final years) for our Work Experience Bursary.

Employability is at the heart of everything we do at the University of Suffolk, and we know how important work experience is to your personal development, and to help make you stand out from the crowd. We also know that there can be financial barriers in the way of allowing you to pursue your perfect work experience opportunity. That’s why we have created the Work Experience Bursary!

The bursary has been launched to offer financial support with things such as travel, accommodation, and costs related to the care of dependents to enable you to pursue work experience opportunities, both in the UK and abroad, that you may not have otherwise been able to undertake.

The bursary for the 2018/19 academic year is now open! If you are considering pursuing a work experience opportunity* but believe you have financial barriers in place, we encourage you to submit an application as soon as possible as funds will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

*Please view the Bursary Terms and Conditions for the full definition of a ‘work experience opportunity’. Please note that we are unfortunately unable to support placements that are completed as a required part of your degree programme/a specific module.

Eligibility

Current, full or part time undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Suffolk completing work experience opportunities*in the UK or internationally are eligible to apply. Please note that the bursary is unable to offer funds in association to placements that are completed as part of your degree programme.

Please view the Bursary Terms and Conditions for the full definition of a ‘work experience opportunity’, and the criteria relating to opportunities that we can and cannot support.

Applications will close on 30th June 2019, or as soon as all available funds have been distributed, whichever comes first.

When do I need to complete my work experience?

The work experience opportunity must be completed on or before 30th September 2019, except for final year students who must complete their opportunity by 31st July 2019. For final year students who anticipate their opportunity is going to end after 31st July 2019, please outline this in your application so that consideration can be given to this on a case by case basis.

If you have more than one work experience opportunity* available to you, you will be allowed to submit as many applications as you like. However, to ensure that as many students can access the funds as possible, unfortunately you will not receive more than £100** per academic year. As we have a limited amount of funds, we want to ensure that we can support as many students as possible in developing their employability, but hope to be able to expand on this in future years.

*Please view the Bursary Terms and Conditions for the full definition of a ‘work experience opportunity’. Please note that we are unfortunately unable to support placements that are completed as a required part of your degree programme/a specific module.

**If you are applying for an international opportunity, you may be eligible for a Bursary of up to £200. Please see the terms and conditions for more details.

How do I apply or find out more?

The full terms and conditions of the scheme can be viewed here, including details of what types of work experience we will and will not support, and what we require from an application.

To apply, please first complete our application form.

Upon completion, please submit your supporting evidence to workexperiencebursary@uos.ac.uk. Details of this evidence is outlined in our terms and conditions.

Please include as much information as possible to outline why you would benefit from receiving the funds, and why you may not be able to pursue the opportunity without the support of the bursary. Applications are reviewed on a fortnightly basis by the Student Services team (or sooner if there are a high volume of applications), and applicants will be notified 3 working days after the panel if they have made it to the next stage. To find out when the next meeting will be, please contact workexperiencebursary@uos.ac.uk.

If you have any problems submitting the form via the website, or emailing us your supporting evidence, would like the application in an alternative format, or have any further questions, please contact us on workexperiencebursary@uos.ac.uk or 01473 338400.

We will process and store your data securely and in line with current data protection regulations. Please visit the Student Services Privacy Notice for further information.
