A Valentine’s Day for one’s own

Valentine's day things to do

For many Valentine’s Day can be one of the loneliest times of the year but that doesn’t have to be the case! It is so important to take care of yourself whether you are single or in a relationship, so today I am sharing some of my favourite ideas for practising the art of loving yourself.

Treat yourself

An obvious start but what better way to celebrate you once in a while by treating yourself! Whether it’s to a sugary treat or to one of your favourite magazines, it can feel a bit more like home by treating yourself to something that you wouldn’t normal have when you are at uni!

Have a bath

Now I know this isn’t possible in all uni accommodation, but if you have access to a bath then I would recommend taking some time to relax and do nothing for a bit! Even if you think you don’t like baths (look at Chandler from Friends) give it a try and you might surprise yourself!

Meditate / try yoga

This might seem intimidating to some but meditation is such a good and easy way to relax! There are loads of tools and resources online to help you get into meditation, I would recommend the app Headspace for an introduction into meditation and if you want to exercise your body as well as your mind then why not try yoga? Again there is a lot of good online resources (I like Yoga with Adrienne on Youtube) but the SU also offer Yoga as one of their social sport sessions so why not go along and give it a try!

Watch your favourite TV programme

With a lot of deadlines luring it can sometimes feel like you don’t get a break at uni, so this Valentines why not plan your work around an episode of your favourite TV programme? Or watch your favourite film on your lunch break? The University also has accessed to a website called BoB which boasts an archive of TV shows that will never leave you bored!

Relax / read

One of my favourite ways to relax is by reading a good book but that might not be the case for everyone! Whatever you find relaxing how about you make time for doing just that this Valentine’s Day.

Remember everything you have!

If you feel a bit down on Valentine’s Day it is ok, but it is also important to remember how lucky you are! We all take a lot of basic things for granted everyday so a gentle reminder like this can sometimes uplift your mood a lot.

Thank you for reading once again! And if you want more self-loving tips the SU are hosting a Self Care fair on the 20 February so be sure to go along and check out what is on offer.
