We understand how important it is for you to visit the University before applying, and we want to support you to make the journey if you are travelling a significant distance.
If you are travelling more than 70 miles to attend one of our upcoming open days, and meet the eligibility criteria in our terms and conditions below, we will contribute up to £50 towards the cost of your travel.
The terms and conditions of the Suffolk Open Event Travel Bursary (2019/20) are as follows:
1. Events covered
The Open Event Travel Bursary is currently available to those attending one of the following Open Events:
- Saturday 5 October
- Saturday 9 November
2. Method of travel
If you are eligible, the Suffolk Open Event Travel Bursary will cover the cost of you and one guest, up to the value of £50 GBP, if you use the following transport methods:
- Car (mileage only)
To receive our Open Event Travel Bursary, you need to meet all of the following criteria:
- Have booked to attend an Open Event prior to the event
- Attend the Open Event you have booked
- Have travelled from your home address
- Return your completed travel reimbursement form and evidence within 30 days of the event you attend:
- Copy of receipts/tickets for train and coach travel
- Copy of receipt/ticket for parking charges
- Evidence of home address where travelling by car
We will take your home address, and that which you will be travelling from, as the address you enter into the online booking form. This is the address we will seek evidence of in the event that you are travelling my car.
We will use the latitude and longitude of the first part of your postcode to measure the number of miles (as the crow flies) between your home address and the University (Ipswich campus).
4. EU and international applicants
You will be eligible for the Open Event Travel Bursary if you are resident in the EU/Oversees, provided you meet the above criteria.
We will use XE Currency Converter on the day your claim is processed, to determine the relevant exchange rate.
5. How to apply
In order to apply for the Open Event Travel Bursary, you will need to complete our travel reimbursement form and send this, together with required evidence (see eligibility above) to:

We cannot reimburse any claims that are made after 30 days from the date of your visit.
6. How much will I receive?
The maximum amount you can claim in total is £50, which can cover you and up to one guest. If your travel costs exceed this, you can still make a claim, but will receive a maximum of £50 reimbursement.
We will reimburse your total mileage from your home postcode to the University and back (as the crow flies), at the rate of 45p per mile, plus parking, up to the maximum amount of £50.
We can reimburse, up to a maximum amount of £50.00, standard class rail travel for you and one accompanying guest.
We can reimburse, up to a maximum amount of £50.00, standard class coach travel for you and one accompanying guest.
Remember to include your train/coach tickets and any receipts when you submit your travel reimbursement form.
7. How and when will I be paid ?
You will need to return your completed travel reimbursement form and accompanying evidence within 30 days of the Open Event.
Once your form has been processed, we will make a Bacs payment, based on the bank account details you have provided. This process can take up to 30 days, or longer during University closures including public holidays. If you have not received your payment within 30 days, please get in touch with us.
