Some people might argue that the best thing about being a student is the discounts (not going to argue with that!). Your NUS card (now TOTUM) will get you loads of student discounts for just £12 a year! Here’s some of our favourites around Ipswich.
Coffee
Along the Ipswich Waterfront, we’re lucky to have so many great cafes to enjoy our breaks in. Lots of these independent cafes offer student discounts, so make sure you take advantage of them. Cargo, Coffee Link, Blends and Continental Café are just some of the few places that you can get a quick coffee in before your next lecture.
Clothes and shoes
With autumn just round the corner, you might want to think about getting a couple of new jumpers before the cold weather sets in. Walk down into town and check out what New Look, T-Reds, and Jack Wills. No time to go into town? That’s OK, Missguided and ASOS also offer generous discounts online.
Music and technology
We all have our hobbies and things we do to unwind. Personally, I love listening to music and playing piano (unfortunately, I can’t fit one in my room). Spotify gives great deals to students, and Amazon Prime will let you watch all the films you want while giving you unlimited one day delivery.
Things to do
Empire Cinema at the Buttermarket also offers cheaper tickets for students - just take your student card along when you go to book or collect your tickets.
There are several local gyms offering discounted student rates including Profiles Gym on the waterfront and PureGym in town, and several local hairdressers offer student rates too, so it's worth doing some research!
Bars and Restaurants
All around Ipswich, there’s loads of bars and restaurants to enjoy yourself in. Along the waterfront, you’ll be able to get some great discounts at Pizza Express and Isaacs, and at Cardinal Park you can enjoy ASK Italian and Frankie and Benny’s for less.
With an NUS card, you'll also received 10% off at East of England Co-op stores.
Travel
Commuting to uni, fancy exploring Suffolk or going further afield? With your NUS card you can get a discounted 16-25 railcard, 20% off National Express services or discounts on airport parking.
While you’re out and about in town, it’s worth asking shops if they take student discount, you might be pleasantly surprised! Take advantage of them while you can; you’ll miss them once you graduate!
